HISTORY

Born the third son of Megam's House Iverem, Gilbert's path in the clergy was laid out almost as soon as he could walk. He didn't have much of an interest in joining the clergy, feeling that it was silly and pointless and wouldn't get him anywhere in life. He held a firm belief that he was destined for great things, if only he could get in touch with the right people. Ironically enough, he didn't really hold much of a belief in the Dragons for the majority of his early life.

At fourteen, priests from a temple near his home visited to solidify the details with his father of his joining the clergy. Gilbert was amazed at how humbly his father, a man of incredible pride, addressed the priests. He'd never seen his father bow so low, or speak with such respect toward anyone before, and after that day, he began taking more of an interest in the Dragons and the clergy.

His parents were happily surprised at the change, although they didn't realize the real reason for his sudden interest. In the position of the priests, he saw a notoriety that would put him in a position of power and give him a real chance to do something. Sure, he had his own interests in mind, but at least he'd stopped complaining about the idea of becoming a priest.

At sixteen, he joined the clergy officially, and he's continued with it since, working and studying to the best of his ability, his mind focused on the day he is able to become a High Priest and attain the notoriety, power and worldwide respect that he craves.

Unfortunately, Gilbert's ambitions and generally despicable character earned him some powerful enemies and now his hopes of becoming a powerful member of the clergy are in jeopardy. He has been recalled to Lucre, to face the consequences of his actions and, as he finds himself escorted by no less than the Atsirian Border Guard, there seems no chance for escape this time.

Gilbert eventually did make it to Lucre, where he was promptly put under house arrest in one of the temples. Shortly afterwards, he was put on trial and officially kicked out of the clergy. Without rank or any real opportunities, he tried to regroup by finding a teacher of magic in the city, so that he might gain some power. Unfortunately for him, it was soon apparently that he had little to not talent for magic. After being unsuccessful at learning anything from two different teachers, Gilbert was forced to recognize this, which left him without a clue as to what his next move should be. Finally, after brooding around at rock bottom for some time, he decided to go home to Iverem and get some aid from his family, whether they wanted to give it or not. However, along his journey north Gilbert collapsed on the road from exhaustion. Luck was on his side for once as a kind family took him in and helped him recover. They also gave him some new plans for his future, as the father had once been an officer in the Megam army at Mamaura.

After receiving financial aid from his father - given unwillingly to avoid greater drama - Gilbert made his way to Mamaura. Once there, he began to learn the arts of war. First, he tried his hand at archery. He failed. There was no way for him to avoid armed, close-quartered combat and so he joined with the cavalry, the most highly prestiged position in the army.

Finally, Gilbert found something new that he excelled at. His skills won him acclaim and put him in a position of power amoung his fellow trainees. Repeatedly, he was assigned to lead training missions and did so successfully. However, he got overly confident and, wanting to make a dramatic impression, pushed his troops and himself harder than was wise. The result of this was an accident which left Gilbert potentially crippled and his horse dead. Gilbert was given an honourable discharge from the army and sent back to Iverem in order to recover.

PERSONALITY

Gilbert is, to put it mildly, an excellent showman and a complete and utter suck-up. To the majority of the world, he'll act charming and amiable, flirting with pretty ladies and speaking and acting very humbly of himself. It's all a wonderful act, since he simply wants to gain favor with those already in positions of power or those who seem like they'll eventually be in a position of power that could benefit him (and he'll do pretty much anything to make sure of it).

He's actually somewhat of a wimpy jerk. He can't take criticism well, especially when people catch him in his act and confront him on it. He's also prone to throwing temper tantrums when no one's looking if things don't work out the way he planned. However, due to the charisma he seems to exude thanks to his act, he tends to have a small cluster of acolytes that follow him around and act as a posse of sorts for him. If you upset him, more than likely part or all of his 'posse' will begin to take an unhealthy interest in you. Whether he actually commands them to act on his behalf, or they do so of their own accord is anyone's guess.

APPEARANCE

Gilbert is rather good-looking, with bluish-green hair that falls away from a part in the center and is pulled back at the neck with a bow, except for two pieces on either side of his face that fall to his shoulders. His hair reaches to mid-back and is slightly wavy at the ends. His eyes are violet, and his skin is somewhat pale. He's lean, and has an overall friendly look to him that would make just about anyone want to trust him explicitly, which he uses to his advantage whenever the opportunity arises. Unfortunately, he also has the worst dental plan ever, as his teeth are a dentist's nightmare.

In his accident, Gilbert's leg was severely injured. Over time, it did manage to heal, but it will never be as mobile as it used to be and thus Gilbert walks with a noticeable limp.
